I can’t open this compressed zipped file.

    • avatar Balsam Range says:

Most of the time someone can’t open it, that’s because it didn’t completely download. Try waiting longer; you could also try accessing the site via the free Google Chrome browser (www.google.com/chrome) and downloading it from that browser; it gives a nice progress bar at the bottom showing what percentage of the file has downloaded.

When is the actual release of “Papertown,” I was really hoping you guys would have it with you at RudyFest! Take care and God Bless!

Haven’t heard ” Papertown ” yet, but you fellas are without a doubt the very best of the best of the bluegrass reps. Your pickins, your harmonies and most of all, your distinct musical arrangements – the little touches that make your work different from the others – the details in stretching tones and the dynamics of your musical interpretations all go into making you special. Your exposure to the public outside of NC is too limited. As recent converts from the classical music scene, we appreciate your superior musicianship. We hope that you acquire a management force that will give you the boost necessary for national and international recognition. You are not nearly as appreciated as you should be on the global scene. Good Luck and great success! Linda

I must admit that the concept of the Balsam Nation membership as a “moneymaking venture” kind of left me with a little sense of cynicism. Do you really need a membership fee to support your growth as a unique Bluegrass
Band? It somehow cheapens the artistic appreciation of your already popular
work. You can make the same financial gains through increased sales of your albums – which are always superior. As your reputation spreads through the skills of your talent, the Balsam “Nation” will grow. We will support your successes through general sales and performance reviews. I think the “fee” concept is novel, but a bit offensive to those who appreciate the quality of your musical talents.

      • avatar Shelley says:

From my perspective, it’s not a “membership” fee. It’s more like dues to join a club which provides lots of wonderful beneifts, many of them cutting-edge. The return on the $47 investment for just the music alone makes it a steal. (The cost of most CDs is about $15 each).

  4. avatar Mike Kelly says:

I respect a person’s right to criticize things they feel strongly about. I am also fine with their decision not to participate in the “fee” concept if they choose not to. I have been involved in bluegrass music in different capacities for many years. Trust me….the fees coming in for this site will not allow the guys to retire any sooner or result in any drastic lifestyle changes…well maybe for Darren. haha I joined as soon as I could and would have paid even more. It is worth it to get access to things above and beyond what most bands have on their sites. The “Pick With The Band” feature is too cool. Being able to get a release early is great as well. I appreciate their novel approach to getting even more of their music out to their diehard fans.

Many people will choose to wait until July 17th to get the project when it is officially release. I have no problem with that either. It takes time to do the things found on this site. If the fees help pay for these bonus….which I’m guessing most of it does….I’m happy to pay my share. I think nothing less of the band for inventing another way to share their talents with those of us who chose to participate. In fact…I applaud them and support them wholeheartedly.
